I you find one advertised for that it is a scam. B&H Photo is a good place to find the bottom end of the pricing scale. You may find something a little cheaper then them but not more then a couple of % points.

$5200 is about the street price for the cameras new. You maybe able to find a used camera for around $4500 or so.

Find one that is stolen at a pawn shop!

Who are you kidding? The cheapest Panasonic Authorized HPX-170 you will find will be $4800. Any less and you are asking for trouble.

If you want cheap, find a different camera in your price range. You can’t even get the HMC150 for $2500.

Or, you can probably find one that’s fallen off the roof onto the ground that’s a little smashed up. If you don’t mind the broken body, I’m sure they’ll sell it for $2500.

If that’s your price point, if you’re patient, you can get an HVX on ebay for about that. They are a bit heavier than the 170 because of the tape drive. And it’s got a slightly older chip. But they are very similar cameras.
