from the FCP6 Tech Specs : QuickView for RAM-based previews of complex multilayered sequences

is this a new feature, and if so has anyone got the low down on this? or did I just not know they had a name for whats happening in the background anyway?

It’s in FCP now and is actually an old feature. Hit Option-8 or choose Tools > QuickView.
