  • Any Way To Make custom Effects Folder?

Hi … seems like I ask a lot of “can you do this” type questions, but they are almost always geared towards efficiency, and I really appreciate the answers I get here!

I’m often finding myself using the same bunch of effects and specific settings (presets) for those effects in a given video … say a long dance recital or the symphony video I’m working on now. I may use one color curve on a lot of shots, a cool B/W vignette on some, another color curve or level change on another, etc. But the same specific effects/presets over and over again.

It would be really neat to be able to put that group of effects and the specific presets I’m using together in one place – e.g. a folder in the effects panel names “effects for symphony video” for example … so I don’t have to bounce around looking for them every time. Is there any way to accomplish that or something similar?

    THANKS!

You can name and save your OFX plugin presets and then those
custom presets will be located in My Documents in the OFX Presets
folder. You can go there and see how well you can customize
    your workflow.

You want to save them as a Preset Chain which is called an FX Package in Vegas Pro. When you bring up the Plug-in Chooser, you will see a Save As… button on the right size. That’s how you save a chain of FX. You will then find them in the FX Package folder in the Plug-in Chooser.

You can use Plugin Manager window to group your favorite effects (not presets).
Vegas can not group presets as you want, unlike some third-party tools

Thanks John … but not sure that’s what I want … I’m not needing a chain, but more “one place where all my favorite presets (of whatever plugin) are together in an easily accessible spot”

Thanks – sounds like what I may want, but i can’t seem to rearrange anything in the Plug-in manager? All i get is “no drag allowed” icons if I try to make my own folder and move stuff there?

I’ll check out the third party tool you mention. THANKS!

OK – tried the vegasaur and it is pretty close to what I’m looking for with a couple things that may make it not real efficient.

1 – I have to select the clip and hit “apply” as opposed to just dragging the effect on the clip

2 – after applying it does not bring the effect details up for that clip so i can further edit if needed.

    I’ll keep playing with it.

    John,
I’ve been using Vegas for 6 or 7 years and learn something new from you every time I come to this page. You are so appreciated for all your expertise and advise to other Vegas users. I just thought you should hear that once in a while.

Hi Robert, Yes it’s good to hear that once in a while. 😉 I’m happy to share what I know and glad that it’s helping people make better videos, which is my passion. Thanks again,
