Any way to Apply Event FX AFTER Track FX

What other FX are on the clip?
Are there any FX on the track or at the output?

Place the event on a different track that doesn’t have any FX. That’s why you have unlimited tracks. 😉

There are other effects on the track; several: levels, color correction… And I split the video event where I want a transition, and then add event fx to that event; such as b&w.

I am using 10.0b.

I would like to use the track FX to “pre process” my original source; level and color correct, and then use event FX last to get the style for each clip.

Here is what I am doing: I have single original clip of 5 minutes. I want to split this video into short clips, add transitions between them, and apply different event fx to each segment to create variety.

So far all of this has seemed most intuitive on a single track.

And I wanted the track fx to be my source processing. So if the ENTIRE clip is too dark, I can just apply levels to the single track, and not have to add a levels event fx to EVERY split clip. So I thought I was going about that part right.

Also, if I have different tracks, the transitions become a little more difficult, being that the source is just one long clip. So I am not really “transitioning” from one clip to another, I am just creating a split and the transition is an effect. So if these events go on different tracks, they don’t overlap, so no transition. And I can’t move the event to create an overlap, because it is a music video, everything must stay in place with the original timing.

Difficult to explain everything! Let me show you my project and Track FX chain. The event fx on the current clip is just “black and white.”

If it’s just color correcting that’s causing you problems, you could color correct at the Media level. That is, add a Media FX and that will get processed first and then the Event FX will be processed which will give you the B&W effect you are looking for.

Vegas processes FX in this order:

Media FX –> Event FX –> Track FX –> Master Video FX

This is why your Track FX and overriding your Event FX.

Aha, “Media FX.” I am new to Vegas, I had NO IDEAL that these existed. That is what I want, to treat the original media clip as a whole. Let me try that. Thanks John.

Note that media fx affects all events that share the same media.
Here’s a little tip: Hold down the Alt key and click on the Event FX icon. This is the fastest way to open the Media FX window.
