  • any success getting Vegas EDL/AAF into Avid system?

Friend is having reeeeeeeal problems getting this to work.

On Win 7 system, using 64 bit V10c (or whatever is the latest version, I guess).

Has tried EDL (using Tools/Script…), Edit Protocol Compliant AAF and Avid Legacy AAF

The latter two cause the Avid suite to crash badly.

The EDL appears in Avid’s EDL Manager, but when dropped on the timeline, can’t find / show the media AFAIK.

Files are a mix of 50i HDV mpeg2 and 25p EX1 mp4 straight from the camera on to USB external drive. EX files play fine if dropped directly on to Avid timeline.

Says Avid reports garbage tape names, eg 253 rather than the original long MXF file name.

Any ideas? He doesn’t want to buy a copy of Media Composer just so his client can receive an EDL. The client wants the option to be able to edit his timeline (currently on Vegas of course) in the event my friend has to go on a shoot outside the country, and the client only has Avid suites. Friend is pulling his hair out, and is in no mood to spend the 2000 quid, aside from the hassle of having to re-edit everything from scratch, on Avid that he hasn’t used for 9 years.

    Any help appreciated.

This once was easy with CuiBono, which now has a new owner.
If he changes garbage names to single character, will it import?
You’ll likely need to convert the HDV to DNXHD depending on the version he’s working with. HDV and XDCAM aren’t the same resolution. Later versions will accept both without conform.

Thanks for the info. Will pass it on.

Am assuming he’s using latest version of MC.
