October 17, 2011 at 6:51 pmAny particular reason to go with the DPA? It’s a very good mic and a good price for the package but have you tried it or any others like the Sanken CS3e or Sennheiser MKH 416 or the Rode NTG3? Just wondering.

October 17, 2011 at 8:06 pmI wish I could try several, but I live hundreds of miles from the nearest dealer.
I will say that in the comparison test Dan Brockett did several years ago, which included Sanken, Schoeps, Senn, etc., the one that sounded consistently best to my ears, both on and off axis, was the Neumann 81i. However, DPA wasn’t in the test group.

October 17, 2011 at 8:58 pmI have the 81i and love it. However it would not be my first choice for ENG where you have to deal with a lot of crowd/street noise. Then I would prefer the Sanken CS3e or a 416. Your choice depends on the primary type of work you’re going to be doing.
