    Any one run Video thru Vaio aw190 HDMI out? Particularly to a Projector?? I’m asking this because that is the reason I purchased this laptop….that and to edit, of course, using Vegas Pro 8. I’m very much a beginner when it comes to editing but NOT to electronics & Hi end home theater equipment.

    I have slowly begun to edit home video shot on a Sony HDR-SR1 1080i camcorder. It uses AVCHD codec. I’ve been able to stumble thru projects to do simple editing to clean up an event which is really all i want to do. Then I’d like to be able to render to display the best image possible on my Home Theater system using a projector.

    The problem is this; no matter what I render to I get some sort of noise when streaming the finished project directly from the Vaio using it’s HDMI out. It’s almost like a horizontal Line that appears when the camera moved. NOT when there’s motion..only when the camera pannned across the landscape or group of people being shot. It is very distracting and dissapointing. I have tried eveything I can to eliminate it. Including speaking MANY times to Vegas support without any success. They seemed to continually refer me to the same set of solutions which I have explained over and over do not work…that is mostly rendering the project NOT in AVCHD but in WMV, V11, 8 Mbps HD 1080-30p Video.

    Can anyone shed some light on this??!

    These lines could be interlacing. AVCHD is meant to be displayed on an HD TV which understands interlacing. If you are playing them back on your computer (which does not understand interlacing) then you have to render as progressive. This is probably why Sony support told you to use WMV because it renders progressive by default.

    Perhaps you can post a screen shot of the problem you are encountering so we can actually see what is it?

    hanks for your response John. I have rendered in progressive, I believe; WMV, V11, 8 Mbps HD 1080-30p Video. Still same issue occurs.

    I’d love for some one such as yourself who has much more knowledge than I to see what I am seeing. But, it is very difficult if not imposible to see on my monitor. I see it very clearly, however, via the projector. With that said, I guess I can get a screen shot by taking a photo of it on my projection screen…..I’ll try that.

    DUMB question, I know but, hodo I post a photo here?

    Right above the area that you type in a response to this post is a line of icons/buttons for bold, italic, etc. The 3rd button from the right which looks like a camera is the Image Upload button. It will allow you to upload an image and then it will give you some HTML to add to your post so that the image gets embedded.

    Here is a photo that shows the “Banding” noise I get. In some spots, it’s a very thin line that actually breaks up the image and moves them to the right or left so they don’t allign. Others are a bit wider but all are horizontal and only happen when the camera is moving. It also happens very quickly.

    I hope you can see with the lower rez photos I had to upload. I will post 1-2 more as well……I’m not sure if I need the link or ebedded code…heres both;

    Definitely not interlacing. I’m wondering what format the projector is expecting and if it’s doing any frame rate conversions on the fly? Also have you tried another media player? Try VLC and see if you have the same problem.

    You might consider buying an HD media player for your home theater system instead of using a PC. I have a WD TV HD Media Player and it plays everything I throw at it. It has HDMI out and could hook directly to your projector. Just attach any USB hard drive with videos on it and you are all set.

    Thanks, John, for your response. really appreciate it. This has been driving me nuts. I’m just really dissapointed I am experiencing this issue with the vaio. streaming and to edit were 2 of the main reasons for buying the Vaio.

    I need to look into the projector to see what it might be doing….it’s a Runco and while there are a variety of settings I will need to research it.

    I will also look into your player suggestion…..
