Any need to keep BPAV files once converted to QTs for FCP?

Is there any need to keep the camera masters?
WHY would you throw out the camera masters?

EX MOV files are difficult to use outside of Mac with FCP.
Ever use another NLE, Compositing program, Windows and you have no masters.
If those mov sit only on your hard drive you’re triply hosed if that hard drive crahses
You lost your job, the client, the cost of a reshoot, you business TANKED!

Back up BPAV to Optical disks (DVD, DL-DVD, Blu-ray) or LTO Tape, I don’t trust even multiple hard drives for long term storage).

Only if you ever need that footage again. Think of QuickTimes as your print, BPAV as original negative. For more details, search this forum we’ve debated this point ad infinitum.

There is also a fair amount of metadata generated by the camera that is nice to keep. The biggest reason to keep it would have to be “future proofing”. While there might not be a lot you can do with your master files now (other than convert them), who’s to say what nifty applications might be developed that will require the BPAV structure?

Better safe than sorry. Petabytes are relatively cheap… why throw media away?
