Any idea where Shake fits in with FCS2?
Posted by Samuel Frazier on April 18, 2007 at 10:52 amI know that there’s not supposed to be another update to Shake and that it is due to be replaced, possibly by something called Phenomenon. But I was kind of expecting it to come with this FCS release and was a bit surprised that it’s not there. Don’t get me wrong, FCS2 looks really really great. But, I also found it strange that one of the FCP6 demos on Apple’s site mentioned that you could still round trip to Shake if you had it.
So what I’m wondering (and it may not be possible to answer unless you’re at NAB) is if FCP6 will be able to roundtrip to Shake 4.1. Thanks ahead of time for any help or thought on this matter!Walter Biscardi replied 19 years ago 6 Members · 13 Replies -

April 18, 2007 at 1:17 pmYou have to realize that not everything is in the announcements at the shows. All the NEW stuff is in there, to find out everything else, you need to go in and read the details.

April 18, 2007 at 1:38 pmYou do know that FCP 5.1 has round trip from FCP to Shake and back. That’s not new, it’s been there.
I was scheduled to take a Shake trainer class with Apple next month, but they canceled it 4 hours after I got on-line and signed up, made plane reservations, etc. I was told they would not have scheduled that training if Shake’s next incarnation was close to release. But, then they cancled it a few hours after I paid for the class, flight, etc.
So, is it true we won’t see the Shake replacement for awhile? Or was the person I spoke to mistaken and they cancled for that reason? Who knows. But I’m still out of my airfare, missed NAB (couldn’t afford both, chose the rare Shake T3), missed the class, missed everything, especially $350 airfare. Thanks Apple…

April 18, 2007 at 6:58 pmYes FCP6 and Shake still roundtrip. I’ve heard that the re-branded Shake will be out this summer. I thought it was very interesting to see node based corrections in Color (forgive my ignorance if it was in the last version). Makes me think it wouldn’t be too difficult to add in the rest of the nodes from Shake to make one super program. What would anybody think about Shake with a timeline?

April 18, 2007 at 8:09 pmSo is there a decent 3D DVE in 6? if no shake integration.
I’ve had endless problems with true integration of Boris Red, – wrong colour space, Red3 transitions not working in 512, options buttons dissappearing.
What is the most consistant DVE options for FCP

April 18, 2007 at 8:34 pmThanks everyone for the responses. It is exactly b/c I know there was roundtripping b/t earlier versions of FCP that I was surprised to hear reference that an older version of Shake would still do this with a new version of FCP. So I thought it was a mistake or oversight. I did look all over, but couldn’t find anything to confirm this. But apparently it’s not an oversight, so rock on! Alan, I understand your frustrations with Red. I can’t say I’ve had the color space problem, but perhaps I just didn’t notice it. I think everything looked okay though. Transitions are a problem, yes. I’ve also found Red can’t export 24p, only 24fps. I pointed this out to them a couple months ago and it is still present in Red 4. How this escaped them for so long is inconceivable. I’m not sure if this problem also exists when Red is used as a plugin for FCP, but I suspect so as it’s def there when used as a stand alone engine. Shake would be my replacement for all this nonsense.

April 18, 2007 at 8:43 pmWith all the new 3-D space in Motion, I’m sure whatever replaces Shake will a) rock, b) not be out before LATE in the year, IF this year…

Yep, been there all along in the original Final Touch product. That was the first time I really used node based effects.

April 19, 2007 at 2:12 amso any chance of combining the 2 apps? i think a timeline in shake’s new iteration would be great. it would kind of put FCP/Shake/Color on par with a DS.
