[The Lobby] “so any chance of combining the 2 apps? i think a timeline in shake’s new iteration would be great. it would kind of put FCP/Shake/Color on par with a DS.”

Hope not. Shake is a compositing app. Color is a colorist tool. I suppose Apple could do that in the future with the replacement to Shake, but I hope not.

I’m afraid that might water down both of them. I think I understand the logic. It would be nice to do all work in something like After Effects. But it sounds like these programs go a little beyond even what that great program can do. I think we’re back to the argument of different tools for different jobs.

Way beyond. With After Effects you can color with something like Color Finesse. That doesn’t even scratch the surface of what Color does on its own. Motion is becoming a very powerful compositor / motion graphics package in its own right now with the addition of 3D layers so it’s going to be interesting to see what this new compositing tool will be from Apple.
