  • Any great reasons to upgrade FCPX with Mountain Lion?

    Hey Cow fans!

I am running a MacBook Pro with FCPX and Lion. It all seems to be working just fine.
Are there any compelling reasons to upgrade Lion to Mountain Lion?
    Will it help FCPX any?

    Any lost capabilities? Just asking…

Mountain Lion is more of a cosmetic change to Lion. Pretty much nothing will change in relation to how FCPX runs with either OS. If you decide to install ML on a system with lots of storage, be sure to give the system plenty of time to install (like overnight). The algorithms that show ‘time left’ on the install get a little confused when large storage is attached, in my experience.

I cannot disagree any more strongly.

There is far more than cosmetics, the 64bit only processing under 10.8 ML is considerably faster when working with larger files, higher bit depths and the higher screen RES needs of the Retina MBP.

Right, but he’s not on a MPBr. He’s asking specifically about FCPX, in which case it’s not going to add features to his current FCPX. Personally I think it’s worth upgrading for just for everything that comes along with it, although I hesitate to refer strangers to any OS in a .0 or .1 status, especially if the person asking doesn’t know much about the OS.

Isn’t there also a benefit with mountain lion with avc intra? there is now native support for the codec as of mountain lion. So what Gary said plus native avc intra in X without “optimizing”.
