  • Any (credible?) new Mac Pro rumors?

Posted by Lee Mceachern on February 13, 2007 at 2:56 am

I need to push my studio into the high-def world and the Mac Pro is the obvious platform choice. However, at MacWorld-SF I heard a small bit of discussion about prospects of a new Mac Pro with four duo Intel processors. Apparently, Apple already makes that configuration in a server. If such a machine becomes available it will definitely by my choice. So the question is, are there are credible reports/rumors/educated musings about Apple making such an announcement at NAB? I don’t usually wait around for “the next powerful computer” but I’m not in an enormous rush and could certainly wait until summer.

If this has been discussed (and discarded?) here lately, sorry I missed it. I haven’t been very attentive to this forum.

    Nope. Nothing credible.

The best you can do is look here:

…and see that Mac towers update (on average) every 206 days and it’s been 190 days since the last update. Ok, that’s nice. But remember, averages don’t really mean squat when it comes to your business!

The only credible souse of information about Apple products is Apple itself. Apple vary rarely says anything until they are about to actually release it.

You can wake up every morning and check apple.com like everyone else.

There’s no such thing as a credible rumor when it comes to Apple. Witness the avalanche of rumors before NAB 2006 when “FCP 6” and “FCP Extreme” were the rage on just about every rumor site out there and nothing happened.

You’ll know the Mac Pros are out when you see them on the Apple home page.

I think it’s safe to assume there will be an 8-core Mac Pro soon. Intel is already selling the chips. Nothing to do with rumors, just speculating the obvious.
