Another short turn around FCP Project

Earlier on in the year I asked for help/ideas for a project we were undertaking where we had an incredibly short turn around to produce an edited DVD of an event we were working on. Response was incredible and thanks to the guys on this forum, we completed the job on time and to a high enough quality to keep the client happy.
We are now about to start work on another event with a short turn around time in a different format. We actually have around 36 hours turn around time from the event finishing to producing a master DVD. The event will run for 6 hours across 3 separate venues (in the same location) and from this we have to produce a 30 minute edited DVD.
Originally we were planing to have 3 studio type cameras roaming around together with a directer, where the signal from each camera is sent back to a control centre, where its mixed down and digitized into FCP directly. From this we will then edit it down to the required 30 minutes.
However, after thinking about it, we came to the conclusion that this could be somewhat over the top for this particular event. Instead we are now thinking about using three hard drive based cameras, and at the end of the event just copying the data off the hard drives, cards or what ever medium they record on to and edit from this.
My main concern for this though is the codec’s the cameras record to and which codec is directly compatible with FCP. We don’t want to be wasting time transcoding to a compatible codec with FCP when we could have just recorded to tape using Sony Z1’s and capturing that.
I do not have much previous experience working with EX1’s or other hard drive based cameras so I’d be interested to know other peoples opinions on this.
