Another render question
I have a 3.2 GHz dual core with 4 gigs of ram. It is pretty fast on all my video editing. My video card is built onto the motherboard and I do plan some day to purchase a high end video card.
Now the question I have is, will I render any faster with a separate video card with its own processor? Or is the rendering process done on the motherboard cpu.
My cpu is max out when rendering but I don’t know if it is the rendering of the processors or the video using the motherboard cpu to process.
If I need to go ahead and buy a new video card, are there any recommendations.

If you want your render to be twice as fast, get a Quad Core CPU. If you want your renders to be 3x as fast, get a Hex Core CPU. There is no way a new GPU will come anywhere close to adding more CPU cores. GPU acceleration is highly overrated and mostly disappointing.

Steve, I looked at my motherboard and found it will handle a Quad Core but getting that one is going to be difficult. Unless my computer distributor can get it cheaper, I will have to wait until those suckers drop.
