  • Another failure to import from P2 to FCP

    Hi Guys.

A few days ago someone was having issues getting P2 material into FCP with an error message something like:

“One or more P2 clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips”

WELL, I’m getting the same thing and wonder if anyone else came to a solution.

FCP 5.04, Quicktime Pro 7.1.1. Mac OSX 10.4.3.

At the moment trying to load the P2 footage to an extermal hardrive instead of dumping it to the main drive (just a test but I thought it should be ok) to see if that chimes with someone else’s odd experiences.

Again, the pics for the clips come up but on import I get the error message.

Any help very very gratefully received.

Try the clips on at a time…the ones that didn’t import. If you still have one that won’t import, then look in the VIDEO folder in the contents folder to make sure it is there. Sometimes camera operators will delete shots, but the CLIP material (picture of the first frame of video) doesn’t go away. that CLIP footage is what appears in your P2 IMPORT window. So it can show you footage that you don’t really have. Thus the reason to check in the VIDEO folder and compare clip names.

    Hi Shane.

Thanks for the reply. Well, I think it may be something more basic than your suggestion. Sheer ignorance on my part. I guess only having a few hours with a new camera / unfamiliar HD codecs will do that!

What I’m saying is that I think it was a footage issue. I just can’t test it right now.

    i.e. the footage was 720 50 / 60pn (PAL)

From what I gather FCP doesn’t support n footage or 720p 50. I think Avid will do (like at the end of the year…)

So does that chime right for you? If true it’s just frustrating that FCP doesn’t say something like “unsupported video format” in the error message.

    60PN?

Well, you are right. If you shot 50p or even 25P, that format is not supported by FCP at this time. Look into P2 Log by imagineproducts.com and see if the workaround supplied by HD LOG (same company) was included in the P2 Log application. There is a demo available.

    Shane –

    Well maybe 50pn?!

N is the camera’s “native” shooting mode I think? Well, you tell me! I don’t think a very quick (poorly read) run through the manual qualifies me to have a decent conversation about the finer points of the issue.

Thanks so much for the link to the imagine site. I’ll check out the software and see if something can’t be done.
