  • Another Damn Access Violation Exception Fatal Crash Question!

Yes, I did check the archives and only found out enough to know that I’m not gonna like the answer to this question.

I’m running Xpress Pro 4.1.1 on a AMD PC with a 250GB external Western Digital drive. I’ve been working for days without problem and then 3 times tonight I’ve had a fatal crash with the error message with words like Access Violation Exception and Structured Exception and String Access Violation. The fault address is always 0x60355385 yada yada yada… I haven’t downloaded, changed or added any software of upgrade. Last time it happened I was just playing a sequence.

So, if you feel I need to download a patch or un-install a something, please walk me through the process like I’m 3 years old. I’m just starting out on a DV feature and I don’t want to have to contend with this everyday. I love my Avid, but computers are SATAN!!!!

Well, first thing you need to do is download a newer stable version. I think 4.1.1 is over 2 years old. You should be able to download 4.6 from: https://www.avid.com/support/downloadcenter

I’d suggest upgrading to Ver. 5.2.4 for $50.00 US:

This should help your Access Violation errors.

I did switch to a new version a long time ago and I had problems or couldn’t even use it (I forget) because apparently the newer version required more RAM than I have (512), so I switched back. Does that sound right? Any other suggestions?

The minimum for Xpress Pro is 1GB of RAM. RAM is cheap so I’d highly recommend getting at least 1GB or maybe even 2GB of RAM. That way you’re covered for when you upgrade to version 5 which is where you really need to be.

    Read the specs here:
