    Current setup:

    G5 2.0 DP [2003] PCI-X 4gb RAM, 10.4.9, FCP 5.1.4. with Apple fibre [copper], Kona 2, to XServe RAID 50 2.5 TB.

    On second internal HDD: FCS2, 10.4.10

    Looking to upgrade to MP 8-core, Kona 3, PCIe Fibre Card, XServe RAID 50 [same RAID}

    Anything else I should expect to acquire? Only other option I think would be the HD10AMA for audio conversion.

    Would the RAID need to be reformatted for any reason? Any minimum RAM suggestions? I figure 4 or 6gb should be enough.

    thx.

    The RAID should not need to be reformatted for any reason, but absolutely back up everything on that array before you make the switch, just in case. Might not be a bad idea to simply wipe that array clean and then put all the media back on it when you make the switch.

    Absolutely, positively don’t switch machines until you’re at a comfortable place in your production schedule to deal with any unforseen issues. Better yet, if there’s a way to start running your new machine while keeping your old machine active at the same time, that’s the best way to make the transition. I was able to do that with our transition to the Mac Pro.
