  • Annoying outline on alpha keyed footage when converting to FLV

    Hi

I’m having a real problem with my current After Effects project. I have keyed my green screen footage using the KeyLight plugin on AE CS3… and have a brilliant keyed character. When I export to MOV the video looks great (RGB+Alpha uncompressed). As this project is going to be working with Flash, I have converted the Quicktime MOV (RGB+Alpha) to an FLV (ticking the “encode alpha channel).

When I watch the FLV back, there is a thin white outline around the character which wasn’t there in the MOV. I changed the background colour in the AE composition to black, and now the character has a thin black line around it. I can never seem to get a clean keyed out character like the MOV when I convert it to FLV. I’ve pressed the “Toggle Alpha” button in the composition window and it shows up as a transparent background.

I really don’t understand this problem… can anyone help?

    Cheers.

If you are exporting using the Render Queue in After Effects go to the Output Module, click on it and in the Vidoe Output under color choose Straight (Unmatted) instead of Premultiplied (Matted) and try it again.

I’m having the same problem, except I get white outlines when I have alpha set to Straight. Premultiplied will get rid of the white jitter but instead produces a black halo around my character… My composition background is set to black.

I’m on AE CS4 and Flash CS3, using Make Movie to render FLV’s.
