Ok, this is either going to be one of those “Oh, that’s easy” or “it can’t be done” type questions.

My footage has a person standing, with a little head movement, but not saying anything. I want to animate the mouth in sync with some other audio, but not sure how to go about it.

My thinking is I use motion tracking first to compensate for the movement and then puppet tool to do the animating, but I’m not exactly sure how to go about this process.

I’m a novice at AE and I’m just starting to feel my way around the program, but any help in this is greatly appreciated.

Make the mouth separately (take a frame of the video, crop only the mouth bit and animate that) and track it onto the face.
