Question about the prekeyed footage I am still pretty new to ae but how can I take say the digital blood or the explosion and place those elements behind someone in a video is that even possible? I tried all the blending modes maybe a mask is my answer? It seems Andrew Kramer did it when he placed a blood splat on that tree in the promotional video? Anybody have any clues?

    Thank You.

A fast way to do this is..

    1. Lay your blood over your footage of an actor. (lets say the head)
    2. Make a new mask over your blood footage that is in the same shape as your actors head.

so when you look at it…

the mask will be invisible, but hiding the part the part of the blood on top of the head (on top of the footage).

So the blood will then look like its behind the actor.

Basically you create a mask and set it to subtract. Then animate it to cut out the foreground element so that it is only “behind”.

Good Luck. You may also need to motion track your background and apply the tracking data to the element for it to “stick”
