  • Anamorphic output for idvd – retaining 16:9 format

Posted by Souljah44 on June 8, 2007 at 6:44 pm

I’m working on a project that i did in a DV NTSC anamorphic timeline FCP 5.1.2. Each time I’ve tried to export a quicktime movie a (fat file) it changes the aspect ratio to letter box. Now, i have been able to export using certain settings in Compressor (DV NTSC Anamorphic and changing the pixel aspect ratio) – this has given me an anamorphic quicktime, but then when I bring it into idvd, it is, again, changing the project to letter box. Anyone know how I can preserve the anamorphic look when exporting for iDVD?

    thansk.

Nothing to say too much editing to do.

    Thanks Tom,

Is anamorphic a problem in DVD Studio Pro or Toast as well?

Not for DVDSP. I can’t speak for Toast. I only use it for data discs.

For what it’s worth, anamorphisizer is wonderful, but DVDSP is a better solution instead of a patch.

[Tom Wolsky] “I can’t speak for Toast.”

Toast will do anamorphic, but not a great choice for DVDs. Compressor and DVDSP are much more dependable.

I had to do it a couple of months ago and found that iDVD doesn’t recognise
    a flag for anamorphic.
Luckily there is a little utility where you drop your exported QT and voila –
it stays 16:9. It’s called Anamorphisizer.
It works and it’s very simple, just follow onscreen instructions.
You can downloaded it for free here:
