anamorphic for 4×3 broadcast
Hi, I’m preparing something for SD broadcast and I’d like to know which sequence setting I should be using. The original footage is anamorphic SD. When I set my sequence to 720 x 486 anamorphic everything looks stretched horizontally in the canvas.
When I uncheck the anamorphic box in the sequence settings the canvas displays the correct ratio but has vertical grey bars on either side
Both sequences display correctly and letterboxed on my monitor (JVC TM-H150C) set to 4×3 display.
In both cases when I set the monitor to 16 x9 display the footage looks squashed which is what I’d expect.
When I output a Quick Time movie to disc for client approval the unchecked anamorphic sequence displays correctly.
Which setting should I use for delivery to broadcast?

You should create a new non-anamorphic sequence, then drop your anamorphic sequence into that. This should give you a 4:3 Letterboxed video both in the Canvas, and on your broadcast monitor.
