I have a FCP project that was shot on HVX P2 and edited as DVPRO HD 720p60 (960×720, ). I need to put this on a Digibeta tape as NTSC Anamorphic. I have an AJA Kona 3. I have not done this before and I appreciate any help. Do I set the FCP settings to make the movie anamorphic with Edit to Tape? Or do I set the AJA up to do this? Or does the Digibeta deck handle it?

Definitely do it with the Kona. Set your play back within FCP at DVCPRO HD at 60. Then open the AJA Control Panel and click on the Format Tab. If it isn’t already set to 720P, set it to 720P (are you in 60 or 59.94 as that will make a difference, but I would assume most likely 59.94) With that selected, set the Secondary (Converted) Format tab to 525 29.97, and right next to it, where it says Conversion, on the Down pulldown menu, set it to anamorphic. Double check it in your client monitor and you should be good to go. Whenever possible, use your Kona card to up, cross, and down covert as it will do a much better job that within Final Cut itself.

Thank you very much, Richard. I forgot to mention that the project is also 23.98.

No problem. Set your playback to 23.976 do the same in the AJA Control panel, but setting 720 23.976 and under the Codec Tab, set your 24-30 Conversion to 2:3:2:3 and you should be in good shape.

    Richard,

We still have a problem and maybe we should start a new thread? I got the FCP/Kona 3 and Digibeta working except the audio is not working correctly. I have the 525/29.97 thru SDI In to digibeta and I get the video, but the four tracks of audio are pulsating on and off? About every second the meters go up and the audio plays and then it quickly goes down. Any ideas?

We are very appreciative for any help.

This is sounds like a reference problem. Do you have a black generator connected to the digibeta deck?

Also, the DVW-A500 has a Reference switch on the front panel (on the left, I think). Try switching that to the opposite position. (sorry not in front of a machine, so I can’t remember exactly). I have seen having this switch in the wrong position affect the audio.

    Hi John,

I ended up using AJA io HD instead of the Kona3 and it worked. I now think I may have a Knoa3 problem? There is an intermiitent problem on SDI 1 out. I will look at the reference path you mentioned next week and see if that was also a problem.
