Analog to Digital: timecode and all
I am taking over an old project that was logged on an older (7 or 8 years old?)version of Media Composer. I am using the latest version of Xpress Pro. The issue is that I need to now digitize a lot of footage (that has been painstakingly logged) from Beta to my MacBook Pro. I have a beta deck but don’t have a way to hook it up to my Laptop.
What do I need to be able to use the time code on the tapes so that I can control the deck and digitize with the existing time codes and Avid? (and don’t have to re-log tons of footage)

First you need an RS-232 to RS-422 converter such as Rosetta Stone, which will convert the VTR remote to something your serial ports can understand. You will need to change the setting for VTR control from Firewire to the serial port you connected the adapter to. That also gets your timecode from the VTR to the Avid software.
Because you are using Beta SP, you also need a Mojo for its component video ins and outs.
