  • Analog Component Video Signal Transfer to HD.

Since the component analog video signal known as R-Y, B-Y, Y, is a stable and known entity, has anyone made an interface box that converts the signal to a known digital signal that is recognized by most video software programs? Is there such a thing as doing an analog video real time component transfer without having to use video editing software other than to convert the file name to an HD or Digital Video file? Years ago I had purchased a product from Black Magic Design that did a decent job, but suddenly it was obsoleted and it made no sense to me do that since its purpose was to do a conversion from analog to digital video. I don’t want to have to keep on buying boxes that are software dependent when the incoming source material is stable and constant, unless, I don’t have to be concerned about suddenly be obsoleted simply because it is no longer supported when its functionality still exists.

It really does suck when your device becomes artificially obsolete and does not support certain versions. I am new to Blackmagic devices but if it has the features already, there should be a work around this that maybe you can look for online to help get you 3rd party solutions for it. Hopefully you can figure this out cause I bet that device costed you a lot huh? how much did it cost you?

The cost was not that much, I think it was $129.00. I still l have conversion harness, it just is no longer supported. It just seems odd to not support a physical piece of gear. I don’t mind buying something else, some that is in theory much more flexible and updated. However, if I go on Amazon there are all kinds of analog gaming R-Y, B-Y, Y interfaces for anywhere from 10 bucks to 30 bucks. I am wondering if the basic R-Y, B-Y, Y market has been abandoned because of the gaming products that appear to mimic what the higher end boxes do at a much lower cost. At this point, if Black Magic Design has their products on display in the Los Angeles area, I’m fine with bringing in a component analog machine if we can hook it up so I can see how it interfaces. But, I have many already completed edited Masters on tape, so I want to be able to transfer it as pure as possible and not be forced into putting it onto a timeline when all that is needed is a straight to digital hi quality file transfer that can then be re-transferred as necessary to the ever growing HD universe.
