I will be buying a Multibridge to go along with a new edit system in a few months.

I am moving my business to a different state and expanding into HD. I will be buying 3 HDV cameras and I plan on using the component outputs for uncompressed blue screen work in my new studio.

I have a few questions about the Multibrdige to help me figure out what equipment I will need for the new edit system.

    1. When using uncompressed component and shooting live without going to tape is their any advantage to capturing 4:4:4 as opposed to 4:2:2 with the Multibridge? I understand that analog is different than digital and there are a few minus points such as noise but will there actually be any more chroma information in the analog signal to justify a 4:4:4 capture?

    2. Can the Decklink or Multibridge capture to the Bitjazz Sheervideo codec? I realize I will not get any real time effects with 3rd party codec but I am interested in not really saving space but bandwidth. I will mostly be using this footage in a compositing program anyways so realtime effects are not that much of a concern for me.

    3. If 4:4:4 capture from analog is actaully worth it can this also be done with SD footage?

    4. I notice there isn’t any direct support to capture 720p 24p video. I know 24p video usually sits inside of a 60p stream. Does the Multibridge have to capture the full bandwidth 60p video or will it extract and only capture the 24p frames inside of the 60p video?

    5. I currently do all of my animation and effects work on 3 PC work stations. I was planning on getting a MAC for the new edit system since there are more options for codecs and editing performance when using the Multibridge. Are there actually any advantages to using the Multibridge on the PC other than using the same AVI files between all of my systems? I figured the Quicktime version of the files would work just as well on the PC systems. If I were to add a 2nd Decklink card in the future to one of my PC’s could the same Quicktime files from the MAC work just as well as AVI for editing inside Premiere Pro?

Thank you very much for any information for can help me with in building my new system.

Ok I got my answer for number 2. Since nobody here or from Blackmagic seemed to be able to answer these pre sales questions for me I wrote and asked the person who makes the Sheer Video codec.

    Thanks for the info guys.
