An “easy” way to deform videos? Vegas Pro 14
Hi there,
currently I try to add a video from mine on a moving screen.
For better understanding this is the video that I took. You can see the screen which I’m talking about. Start ~ 01:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-op_9cba8Qk
Now I want to get rid what they are showing on that screen and add my video.
What I did so far: I masked (negative) the complete screen and animated it. Now I “only” need to put my footage one layer below in vegas. The problem is that the screen hast a trapezial form. Therefore, I have to deform the clip make it fit into it.
However, if I use the video FX effect “deform” this is a… well sorry for my language… a pain in the a**. The masking was already a lot of work, but deforming the clip into there is nerve wrecking.
I was wondering if there is an easier way to do it. Is there maybe an option to “drag” and animate the corners of my footage? For example for the masking part I was able to drag & animate the cornerstones as needed.

Woah, Michael, I understand, even if it is possible in the way you wish, that’s a steep skills-curve you’d need to apply.

Yes, indeed. Apart from what you’re attempting to do, you’ve also got that organic lighting to then flood and illuminate the Screens!
Might I suggest the following? Consider doing a separate 3D Track Motion NESTED VEG. You could now be in control of the Perspective and Parralax you’re trying to execute using Deform FX. Do you understand? I just thought that an artificial Green Screen could or maybe employed to get you a result.
Generally this is an altogether Complex and Complicated project.

Hi Michael
As Graham said, ‘‘that’s a steep skills-curve you’d need to apply.” You will need patience but once mastered… sky’s the limit. What you may have to do is use Magix‘s partner Hitfilm. It has a really nice tracking feature (Mocha) plus a few options that will help you in completing your project. Basic Hitfilm is free. You can get the extra features you need one at a time or buy the whole package. As with all new software, there is a learning curve. But once you got your rhythm I am finding it is a great companion to Vegas.
They also have a bunch of well made tutorials to help you out. I’m still learning and finding new applications to use in my Vegas projects.
