Hi, this is my first post on creative cow.

I have recently bought a used Adrenaline box to my Avid MC 3.1.2 software system. My problem now is that the MC will not recognize the Adrenaline. The box itself seems OK. It gives signal to my client monitor and “selftest” is OK, but I cant get video from the software to the hardware. The CPU sees the Adrenaline under -hardware -FireWire: FireWire-Bus -Adrenaline.

My computer is a PowerMac G5 (June 2004) with Dual 2.5 PowerPC G5 processor. The Adrenaline is the only thing attached to the internal FW bus.

The PowerMac G5 have had problems with updating the firmware to the Adrenaline, so I successfully updated the firmware via a borrowed PC (I installed the same MC software on the PC with the Adrenaline attached to it. Opened the software, was asked to update the firmware, did that. The Adrenaline then worked fine on the PC). I then put the Adrenaline back on my PowerMac G5 system. AMC starts up as software only and does not recognize the Adrenaline. Just the same as before!

    Thanks for ANY help!
    /Kriss

Maybe the FW port on the G5 is hosed?

Hmm. Do you mean if the FW port is broken??? I don’t think so, FW-drives used to run OK.
Now, the Adrenaline is the only device attached to the internal FW bus.

Did it request a hardware update?

It didnt when I attatched it to my PowrMac G5. But the PowerMac G5 have had problems with updating the firmware to the Adrenaline, so I successfully updated the firmware via a borrowed PC.

The Adrenaline then worked fine on the PC. I then put the Adrenaline back on my PowerMac G5 system. AMC starts up as software only and does not recognize the Adrenaline.

Not sure what the supported config for the G5 is, but you may want to check out stuff like this: https://www.adcom.it/public/images/pdf/OSX%20AVID.pdf, to make sure that your slot configuration is correct.

    Thanks for the answers!

Actually, I can’t figure out what slot configurations is/means. I feel like a real rookie here ;-(, but it seems to have something to do with an extra FW-card.

I have plugged the Adrenaline Box, via FireWire, directly onto the back of the CPU. No extra card added.

The Adrenaline firmware is version specific.

Was the MC version on the PC the same as on the Mac?

Were you using the same FW cable?

    Matthew.
Thanks for answering, getting kind of desperate here, and the Adrenaline is collecting dust…

Yes; the MC version (3.1.2) on the PC was the same as on the MAC, when I updated the firmware.
Yes; I used the same cable.

    Any thoughts?

You bring it back to that same PC and it works?

    What OS is the Mac?

Have you tried different FW ports?

Yes, the Adrenaline box works fine on the PC. Now I have also tested the Box on my MacBook Pro and it works perfect!

My OS on the PowerMac G5 is 10.5.8 Leopard.

I have tried all FW ports thats available on the CPU. Including the FW 800 port. Same result, no connection!
