Question: In avid i import bars and tone and place them at the beginning of every sequence. This is to ensure I do not hit the red levels when I dub to a DVD or for the web.

I set my tone at -20. I then preceed to edit my sequence. I try to make all music, and or voice levels to hit just below the red, but never at or above it. Lots of times the levels are in the yellow.

My theory was, set tone at -20, edit audio so it barely ever hits the red so I can have the loudest audio possible, then when I dub to dvd or for the web, i just have to set my tone to match -20 on the software program and i will ensure the loudest audio possible.

Is this what you all do? Or should i be making my music, and voice levels to hit around the -20 level? My co-worker does that I am not sure if she is correct or not.

    Thanks.
