  • Always dropping frames in batch capture

Posted by Lisa Salem on July 4, 2006 at 1:24 pm

Hello – Lately, I can no longer batch capture using my DV cam and FCP without ALWAYS dropping frames and FCP trying 5 or 6 times per file to capture. I’m having to use the ‘capture now’ setting to capture anything, but before I never used to have this problem and could always log and capture and then batch capture.

Can anyone tell me why this might be happening and what I can do about it? Is it a simple issue like head-cleaning that I need or is the problem likely to be based in FCP rather than my camera?

I’m working to a deadline, so if anyone can help sooner rather than later I’d be really appreciative.

Cheers for any help in advance.

With zero information about your system, it’s darn near impossible.

Generally dropped frames means you have drives that are too full, too fragmented or too slow. But I have no idea what computer, FCP version, drives or deck you’re running, so that’s just a shot in the dark.

I use a Powerbook G4 and a DVBox 320 external harddrive. I work in FCP HD.

    – Should’ve said it’s a Promax DVBox 320GB and the DV cam I use instead of a deck is a Cannon Optura.

    How full is the drive?

    Hi – I’ve used only 100 of the 300GB’s.

Is your camera daisy chained off the drive? When running on a laptop, the drive should be connected to the laptop and the camera connected to the harddrive.

    Hi

Thanks for this advice. No, it’s not daisy-chained. I’ll try that and see if it helps.

    Cheers,
    Lisa
