Alternative to DVDs but with all the menus on USB?
DVDs are now very long in the tooth with regards to picture quality for the small producer, especially for 2 hour+ performances. One thing that is really nice about DVDs and Blu-Rays though, is the content management via menus, and backgrounds etc.
I film a performance for a local group who put on a play once a year, which has traditionally been delivered on DVD (I use encore). The worst part of this process for me, is seeing the full HD quality product in my studio to have half it’s life squished out and squeezed onto a 4.7Gb disc losing much of the quality.
A blu-ray version is obviously way better, but not everyone has a blu-ray player. In fact, less people have DVD players these days.
One alternative is to put the movie files on a USB, but is there a way to retain the value add that is the DVD content management system (backgrounds, menus, playlists etc) ? Or is there another way to manage things like chapters, scene selection and playlists on a USB delivery?
It would also be useful for people to plug the USB into any device they have, laptop, games console or TV.
