  Alt+Click for Parent problem

  I’m new to Cinema 4D so excuse me if I miss some terminology here. I am on a PC running XP64bit and trying to use the 64bit version of C4D. I need to use functionality that creates a parent when you get a new object by holding ALT when you choose it. For instance, when I have a cube selected, I should be able to hold ALT and get a null and the null automatically becomes the parent of the cube. It doesn’t work and I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and how I may go about fixing it?
