    Hi people

I’ve been exporting render passes from Maya ready to be composited in After Effects. I have a refraction pass and beauty pass of some 3d text. I’ve used a difference matte which works nicely to combine the images but I’d like to have the alpha background from the beauty pass show through onto the refraction pass (as the refraction only has a black backdrop).

    Thanks

When you say “…a difference matte…” you meant blending mode right? so if I got things right,

Duplicate the beauty pass, put it above the refraction pass, and set the refraction pass layer’s matte to alpha channel.
