Does anyone know if there is a way to get FCP X to use more RAM for rendering/transcoding/compressing?
Every time I am doing so, I check my activity monitor and it says maximum it is using 2GB of memory and there is about 8 gigs of RAM labeled as Inactive. Anything would help!

    System:
    OS X 10.6.8
    Mac Pro 1,1
    2 X 2.66 Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    16 GB 667 MHz DDR FB-DIMM

Since long time RAM allocation is automatic in Mac OS.
Anyway, more RAM would help for RT performance, but not for rendering/transcoding/compressing.
For those taskst you need CPU/GPU.

    Thanks for responding!

After extensive research, I found that getting a solid state drive would actually help out with that (though this is merely a theory until I actually try it).

I know it’s a hassle to upgrade the CPU, so that will be my last resort.

    Thanks again.
