All Video offline on Sony Vegas 8?
I just got Sony Vegas Pro 8 two days ago. I installed it AND Media Manager. When I opened Vegas 8 and import a project that I had from Vegas 7 (which I unistalled) all of the VIDEO files (they are ALL AVI FILES!) are said to be “Offline” but the audio files are online, and I can hear them in the video preview. And also, when I import a video file, I cannot drag it to the timeline because it too is offline 🙁 I run Vista, and I basically just got this computer not even 2 weeks ago…anyway…..
Is it Vegas 8, or is it my computer? Can anybody tell me how to get my video files back online? Does Vegas 8 Pro support Vista? -

First off, Veg files saved by Vegas Pro 8 will not be usable in Vegas 7. I’d recommend making copies of your existing veg files and saving them somewhere as backups in case you want to reinstall V7. V7 and VP8 should coexist on the same system just fine, but you can’t easily take a project back to V7.
As for files being offline, usually that is a result of a file path change or a file name change. For Vista, you might also have a problem with folder ownership or permissions.
VP8 is supposed to be Vista compatible, meaning that SCS will eventually answer a support call about VP8 on Vista. If it were V7 they might just say “we don’t support V7 on Vista”.

Thanks, but how do I fix the “Media offline” problem? I mean, I do understand about how you said it could have been from moving a file or renaming it and all…
If that made any sense…take this for example (I meant to add this in my main post…but…eh)
I download some video that I want to edit (ex. put subs in it) but I download it on a different computer (that is XP) BUT onto an external hard-drive. I take the external hard-drive to my computer with Vista and Vegas Pro 8 on it. I attempt to import the media from the external hard-drive into Vegas, yet Vegas says that it’s offline. And I do have access to the external hard-drive… -
Well, it sounds like you’ve got the file names and paths correct, so I’d look into the USB drive’s ownership and permissions. I thinks Vista is a bit more fussy about this.
I’m guessing that the error you’re getting is misleading. It might really be that Vegas can’t write to the USB drive. Or maybe there are folders specified in the project setting from your XP system, and those folders don’t exist in the Vista system.
There is also the possibility that this media uses a codec that you don’t have installed on the vista system.

AHA! I figured it out!
It was the codec that wasn’t installed on my Vista computer, but it was stored in the external hard-drive. Wow thank you so much man, I really appreciate it. 😛 -

I have same problem, but I’m using XP.
All the files are .avi and I hear the sound etc
So can you tell me what’s that codec what I supposed to download?
And also it does .avi.sfk files to all videos what I used to edit at vegas pro 8 and I heard somebody to tell me that’s the problem; and when I remove those files sometimes it doesn’t say anything media offline etc
But, I think that I dont have all the codecs, so would you please tell me what codec you downloaded (and I’ll search same kind of codec to xp if it’s different one).
Also I looked my codecs and I have 2 codec packs, xvid, divx
