Okay, so before you tell me there are lots of other threads on this, let me tell you I have done days worth of research on this, asked multiple sony vegas – savvy friends of mine, and nothing I seem to do helps. Now on to my problem.

It all started about 4 days ago. Now keep in mind, I have downloaded NOTHING new since the beginning of this project, I have NOT changed my camera, nor have I changed any of the settings for my rendering options.

I made a few videos with my new HD camcorder recently, and they worked fine, except for one thing. When I tried to render them in my usual format, but alas it did not work. So instead of rendering in 1440 x 1080, I had to render in 1280 x 720. I wish I remember the error I encountered when these videos did not want to render in 1440 x 1080, but I do not. Nonetheless, they rendered fine once I went down to 1280 x 720. (THese videos were 1-2 minutes in length.)

Then this week I started a new project, and here is where things start to get a little funky. I started to add my files into the timeline (recorded with the same camera as before)and I started getting these error messages saying “Vegas has suddenly stopped working, would you like to send this to Sony Company?” or whatever. I clicked more details, and it said the reason was because of an “Unmanaged Exception”. I wish I could repeat this flaw, but it only happens randomly sometimes. It got annoying, but I dealt with it. Also my video playback in the preview window was veryyyyy laggy, to the point where Vegas would freeze up completely for minutes at a time trying to preview some of the video. But I eventually got it edited and all, not TOO heavy editing, just contrast adjustments, brightness adjustments, and transitions. The video is 2 minutes and 6 seconds in length. When I went to render with my usual settings (I will post pictures below), it came up with an error “Not enough system memory, try to exit out of other programs first”. This didn’t come up before, so I closed out of all other background programs, and tried again. Still no luck. So I tried to render into .wmv format with default settings. STILL no luck. Now I was getting pissed. I tried everything I could think of, and nothing worked. I then tried to render with my regular settings, but now I checked the “Render Using Networked Computers” checkbox in the rendering menu. This didn’t work for about 6 tries, then finally it got through. I played the file, but first of all, it didn’t play when I double clicked it (default player is windows media player). I checked the properties and it was a .wmv format video, and it had the thumbnail for a windows media video, but it wouldnt play. So I tried to play it in VLC media player, and it played, but all my clips were black, and there was no sound. There were maybe 3 transitions. It was the same length (2:06), but there was no sound or anything. So I tried to match up the Pixel Aspect Ratio and the Frame Rate to the actual clips in the video (PAR = 1.0000, FR = 29.970). This then proceeded to having, yet again, the error pop up that said “an error occured accessing project media. some streams in the media file could not be opened” Which really confused me because all the files haven’t been moved once. So I did a fresh re-install of Vegas 9.0 Pro, and still the same thing happened.

If I can give ANY more info at all, please let me know, I will do whatever it takes to get this fixed, or at the very least figure out the problem. I have racked my brain all day and night for this week trying to figure out ANYTHIGN I might have done to mess it up, but I just can’t think of anything. Thank you for your time.

I doubt if this is the total answer but you might try going to the preferences, video and then changing the Dynamic RAM Preview Max settings. I’ve had similar problems and as much as I love Vegas it has issues that no human should have to deal with constantly.

    Hope this helps,
A – try going to properties of your project. Make sure the template is HDV 1440 – 1080 or if the camera is Full HD set the project for that.
B – check your project media and hit the lightning button to get rid of all unwanted media.
C – when you are making a project the project saves all your undos in ram, so save your project them close it then reopen before you render.
D – when you render put the ram preview to o.
    E – Cry.
