align to center of canvas? distribute evenly?
Is there any way to do either of these things in photoshop cs5?
– center-align a layer to the canvas/page/artboard?
– distribute several layers horizontally so that there is the same amount of space between the layers (this is different from distributing so that the center points of the layers are distributed evenly) -

As to the first question, simply select the layer in the layers palette, then with the black arrow tool selected press CMD+A to select all. Then goto Layer>Align Layers to Selection>Vertical Centers. Then repeat with Horizontal Centers.
The second is more difficult and I haven’t found a good way to do it yet. I usually measure the distance between the objects, divide that number by the number of objects which then gives you the measurement needed between each object. Its a pain.

For #1 you can use make a solid layer that filsl the page and align to that.
For Number 2. Make a shape (Such as a square) Then use snapping to drag and space the objects out.
Layer l
Snap Square to right edge.
Drag Layer 2 to right edee of square

To align to canvas, select your object, then go View->Snap to->Snap to page, then grab your object and align it manually using the green center lines to guide the correct placement.
