aliasing text – can’t find an answer
I’m working with a DVCPro 720p project in FCP and I’m trying to put titles in. I’ve been trying to right click on the project and click “send to motion project” to add titles that way. Once I edit the titles, I hide the background layer and save the file. When I open the file in FCP and drop the motion title over the clip, the title is very jagged. Is there a way around this? I’m trying to keep from having to export each title one by one.

i just tried to render the clip out as lossless+alpha and it had the same jagged effect. However, when i export from motion WITH a background layer, the text is crisp. any ideas?

I read through it and tried everything it mentioned but am still getting this jagged text.
When I embed the motion file automatically it erases any transitions or color correction i’ve done in final cut.
My footage is DVCPRO HD 720p.

That’s correct – filters, transitions, and generators do not make the trip from Final Cut Pro to Motion. Check the field order of the Motion project inside FCP, sometimes FCP doesn’t flag it correctly.

Right-click on the .motn project file in your FCP sequence and choose item properties, or select it and press Command-9 – import thing to know for anything in FCP…

i’m using FC 5 by the way. Not sure if that makes a difference.
What should the field order be for the motion file? All I see is field dominance and it doesn’t give me an option to change that.

You should be able to try changing it to None. Sorry, Motion calls it field order and FCP calls it field dominance, I never remember which is which. If you can’t change it there for some reason, right-click the Motion file, choose Open in Editor, go to Edit > Project Properties, change it there, and see if it updates.

it was already set to “none”. Thank you for helping me walk through this. Any other ideas?

Change the Motion project size to 1280×720 and the pixel aspect ratio to square. That’s always helped me when I had to deal with this problem in DVCPro HD.
