  AJA Kona2 & IMX Codec in FCP 5

  I’m seeing a pattern here. I have a brand new G5 Dual 2.7 gig system with 4.5 gig of RAM, AJA Kona2 with K-Box, ProMax 2TB SATA Drives rated for HD, and Final Cut Studio. We acquire everything in XDCAM which uses the IMX codec, therefore, FCP 5 was the logical answer since it now has IMX codec support. We also use Flip4Mac MXF Import plugin to import the IMX fooatge from the XDCAM machine thru our network (so, no more digitizing!). It all sounds great and wonderful BUT, when I view any of my IMX material that I have imported into FCP, I see a luminance shift. A large luminance shift. Reminicent of the AJA IO problem of last year. Now, if I change my timeline codec to, let’s say, Uncompressed 8-bit or DVCPRO50, I don’t get that annoying luminance shift. But when I switch back to IMX 40 (which is what the footage is acquired at), I see that nasty luminance shift AGAIN.

  I’m wanting to know if this is a common occurence with Kona2 users or AJA users in genreal. Or… Is this a bug with FCP 5 and IMX. What do you folks think?
