    Hello!
    I have a doubt:
I found an AJA document (PDF) with a diagram in which I read that the Kona LH “installs in PCI slot G4 or G5”. I saw that the PCI connector is divided in the point of the older PCI 32 bit slots, so the card is mechanically compatible with this kind of slots.
So, since the AJA document does not specify in which model of PowerMac G4 the Kona LH can be installed, I can’t understand if will this card work in an older 32 bic PCI slot, because there are some G4 models with only PCI 32 bit slots, and other models with 64 bit 66 MHz PCI slots.

    This is my need:
With a new Mac Pro PCI-Express I need to install the PCI-X Kona LH card, instead of buy a new LHe only for a bus issue!
So I found these PCI-Express to PCI adapters:

    https://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-express-to-pci-adapter-p29855.html

    https://cooldrives.stores.yahoo.net/1popcto4xpci.html

but these have the 32 bit PCI slots, and I should fit the Kona LH card in it!

Can anyone help me? or at least tell me which model of G4 is compatible with the Kona LH card?

    Thank you!

You must have misread the diagram – the Kona LH is only compatible with the Power Mac G5, not with the G4.

The Kona LH is a PCI-X card. It only works in G5s that have PCI-X slots.

The Kona LHe is a PCI Express card. It only works in newer G5s that have PCI Express slots and in Mac Pros.

Neither model works in the Power Mac G4.

    Hi Mr. Drywood –
I have never heard of anyone ever having any success putting PCI cards into a PCI-Express machine via a “bridge” – but if you get it to work – PLEASE let us know, because you will be the first ! This applies to storage host cards as well as AJA and Blackmagic cards.

Don’t count on this working. Probably a good idea to bite the bullet. Sell your Kona LH on Ebay and buy an LHe.

    Ok, thanks to you all.
If we’ll make this test, I’ll write you the result.

Would the Kona 3 work with PCI-X? I have a dual 2Gig G5 that I got in 2005. If not, is there extra gear that I would need to get to “adapt” my G5 to accept the Kona 3?

[JavierC] “Would the Kona 3 work with PCI-X?”

there are 2 versions of the Kona 3 card, one is PCI-e and one is PCI-x

the cards however cannot be interchanged.
