Aja Ki Pro Files best organization in FCP
I’m editing using Ki Pro ProRes 422 files. I first copied the files from the Ki Pro hard drive to my media drive. On my media drive, I created a folder in the Final Cut Documents folder called AJA. But I was wondering if they should instead be in the project folder in the Capture Scratch folder. Or somewhere else? In FCP, I simply imported them and they appeared in the browser. But as these files multiply I was wondering if this filing system will bite me.

It really matters on how you archive. For each project, I have a folder that stores all my media for that project. I put KiPro captures in there as that entire folder gets archived, usually. My capture scratch folder doesn’t get archived all the time.

In my render folder, each project has its own folder.
In my Capture Scratch, each project has its own folder.
Same with audio render folder.
I also have a QT export folder.
If I want to organize this by project in order to archive, can I just create a project folder move all parts of the project in there and then, if and when I need this media again, point FC to the files as needed?
In the past, I’ve just copied the fcp media folders to a new hard drive, wiped my raid clean and started again using FC default file set up. But Pro Res files are much larger than what I’ve used in the past and this system might get messy sooner than later.

There’s no right or wrong way as long as everything is organized and you don’t mistakenly throw away what you need. The method i use may not be the method you use.
You should keep render files separaete from media files. That way if you trash your renders, you won’t confuse your render files and media files.
Your method seems just fine.
You can also use the free Preference Manager to Keep track of different prefs per project. This way every time you open a particular project, all the files will go where you want.

Thanks. The KiPro import was new for me so I just wanted to make sure. I got an error message after one import that said the file was optimized for FCP. Get info said it was a ProRes 422 file so I just deleted it and reimported it and did not get any more error messages.
