Is anyone having success with the AJA io and the Tascam FW-1884 in Final Cut Pro? It seems that I have a fight going on between these two in some kind of Firewire conflict.

In Soundtrack Pro and in the G5 preferences I can set up the FW-1884 as the default audio device. Works great with Soundtrack, and I used to to record a few VO’s in STP today.

The problem is when I switch over to Final Cut Pro (v5). FCP becomes sluggish, I get the dreaded “can not open io device…blah blah blah”. I have had it work for a while after a complete reboot, only to crash after a few edits.

When I unplug the firewire cable from the FW-1884 things are OK. The AJA and FCP are fine, audio flows out of the AJA thru the Tascam and into my audio monitors.

Is anyone having success with the AJA io and the FW-1884 in Final Cut Pro?

you will suffer with ANY firewire device plugged in while the AJA I/O is plugged in at the same time. This applies to firewire cameras, drives, etc. as well. You can get a firewire patch bay, you can get a firewire AB box, you can get a third party Firewire 400 card to plug into one of the slots, or you can simply UNPLUG one of the devices while you use the Tascam or I/O. No biggie.

I forgot about that Bob… thanks for the reminder. I have regularly used a firewire deck as an input device while using the AJA io in FCP, so a kind of forgot about the limitations. Addind to my “brain fade” is that the two appeared to both be working at the same time for a while.

A new firewire card is an easy soloution. I’ll give that a try this weekend.

    Thanks!

Just an update for anyone who’s concerned… I added a $35 belkin PCI firewire card to the G5 and all is well. Score something today on Soundtrack Pro… video output to the big monitor via the AJA io just fine…
