AJA IO HD and Timecode Breaks
Gary said in another post:
FCP 6.01 still does not see LTC timecode when capturing- you have you use AJA’s VTR exchange to capture LTC timecode direct from the cameras.
So my question is what if there is a timecode break on the tape? Will it create a new clip, crash, keep recording?

What Gary is referring to is live camera capture.
I don’t know what happens with VTR exchange when this happens (like the camera stops rolling and the ioHD is recording).
My ioHD is about 20 minutes out of the box and the camera is gone on a shoot today. 🙁
Hopefully I can test what happens soon.
The ioHD has a sweet fit and finish.

correct- and that means that there is no return signal to the deck to cause it to stop.

it does nothing
– because there is not a return feed to inform the camera there is a break it cannot do anything except pass the TC thru to the file. Working in a Live Capture environment is very very different that getting return to the deck.

No, but the SDX has LTC and it’s out.

Breaks and all correct- this is how all live captures happen in the FCP workflow.
thats why in Live captures there is usually Genlock, Clockit box or TC generator that sends sync to all devices that are on set.

Have you done this with the IoHD? Do you setup the VTR exchange for ioHD serial, and then choose LTC in the control panel? Is that how it works?

Well, what’s weird is that the release notes say the LTC doesn’t work with VTR exchange. I find it’s not entirely accurate. While you can’t see the timecode while you are capturing/previewing in VTR exchange, the timecode does get passed to the file. So, after capturing the movie has the proper timecode. That’s great!
