so you can’t capture prores on a macbook over the aja I/O then?”

CERTAINLY you can. The encoder is on the AJA I/O…the MXO 2 does not have an encoder.

    Thanks for the comments.

I apologize to Matrox for the mistaken identity. I’ve had nothing but good support from that company. But I am very disappointed to realize that it is AJA making this overblown claim. Because I’ve also had excellent support from AJA.

As everybody on this forum probably knows, credibility is about as important as ability in the video business. A shame to see a company like AJA plant seeds of doubt, just for the sake of a clever ad.

    Shane, Andy,

Is it true you need to plug the IO into the wall? if so, what a blatantly dishonest ad! Very unlike AJA’s brand to do something so misleading.

    Have a wonderful day.

So they accidently left out the picture of the tiny portable Honda generator providing the A/C power… Come on guys, don’t nitpick.

I was wondering when this thread would get silly … then I saw DRW’s name and I KNEW.

but, nitpicking? Me, never. I actually am so naive that when I saw the ad, my first thought was, “Wow, that’s really cool!” Which is another reason overstated advertising backfires – it makes the would-be customer feel like an idiot.

sorry David, can’t think of a witty response to yours… oh well.

They accidentally left out the copy “If you’re Howard Hughes…”

    David!

Nitpick? You can’t say it can work on a plane if you need to plug it in! Nitpick? You’re kidding right?

That’s false advertising my fried. Very, very bad.

    Have a wonderful day.

[Chris Borjis] “They accidentally left out the copy “if your Howard Hughes””

… or, “if you’re the chairman of the board of a car company flying to Congress on the corporate jet to demand money because you’re so close to bankruptcy.”

on another front, don’t the people from AJA read these forums? I’d be curious about their reaction. In the Internet age, where fact-checking is pretty easy and fast, overblown ads won’t cut it.

This is getting blown out of all proportion! False advertising? Are you kidding?
C’mon, last time I checked there was an AC power point under/next to my seat when I fly … yes, in business class, but so what? Also in economy (if I ask to be in the rows near the front of economy where they have the power points).

Seriously, editing on a plane is no big deal … capturing via baseband and monitoring on a reference monitor on a plane is the tricky bit. If you’re editing HD on your lappie in ProRes then plugging in your IoHD on a plane is not that big of a deal as the power points do exist. If you’re not editing HD in ProRes why on earth would you want to be plugging in your Io HD anyway?

    Just an extra 2c 🙂

actually, according to Matrox the MXO2 can capture SD Prores.
Matrox also says you can use the MXO2 for accurate color on cheaper HDMI LCD screens.

That isn’t to say that the AJA IO HD isn’t great, but along with a proper broadcast monitor it will cost several thousand dollars more than the MXO2.

Actually, I’m in the process of trying to decide which of the two to buy! Tough decision.
