aja board output flickers on realtime conform
Posted by Mark Foerster on November 15, 2009 at 1:18 amSorry for all the posts, Am I wrong in thinking the aja hde will downconvert on aquire?
VIDEO INPUT MENU
SOURCE STANDARD 1080i
MEDIA STANDARD 525i
(letterboxed)
my footage is flickering madly.1080-1080 acquires just fine.
What am I doing wrong?
I thought this board acquires and down-converts on the fly…thx!

November 15, 2009 at 12:10 pmOnly, I believe, converting HDV (1440 X 1080i) on the fly but I may be wrong. To convert HDV to 1920 X 1080 I used the Convergent Design HD-Connect on the fly but there must be a box to down convert also. Why don’t you leave it until you’ve completed your edit before down converting in Media 100? Or, better still, if you’re going to DVD let BitVice do it, that’s the best down convert of all in my humble opinion.

November 15, 2009 at 1:44 pmThe LHe board does a downconvert in realtime. What software version of Media 100 are you using? What output do you use? What Aja driver? What input (I guess 1080i29.97)?

November 15, 2009 at 2:10 pmYes, I can always drag and drop the 1080i timeline and conform it to a
720 x 486 SD program. That does work, but took 4 hours. Would have been nice to do it “on the way in”
I’m going to try bitvice always wanted to.
Which codeec works best when sending to a m100 movie to bitvice?
Will Bitvice Scale/letterbox And convert to Mpeg 2/4 in one pass?
that would be cool.thx for your response!

November 15, 2009 at 2:41 pmInput 100i 29.97
Output 525i 29.97
M100 13.0
Aja 6.02Should I upgrade to 13.0.4 – with jobs in the system? Which current version of aja works with M13.0.4
I’m always hesitant to upgrade firm ware and software. Once it works – I leave it – especially with “jobs” in the system.1080I acquire works fine so I assume all connections (SDI) are functional, question – does m100 control the Aja control panel or is it independent? Could that be the problem? Either way – I captured in 1080 and will conform overnight…

November 15, 2009 at 3:58 pmIf you use Aja 6.02, you should upgrade to Media 100 13.0.4. As far as I know the 6.02 drivers were not approved with V13.0. I think the update from 13.0 to 13.0.4 is not a problem; the only issue with 13.0.4 is that the analog component output does go out of sync when acquiring analog inputs. If this is a function you use a lot I would upgrade only to 13.0.2

November 16, 2009 at 12:08 pmMark, Floh has covered the Media 100 queries (as always!) but if you try the BitVice application, which I love, then choose the VBR two pass option as you should get a better quality encode that way, the alternative is CBR one pass. It’s worth the extra time taken – certainly not real time!!!
