I have this deck and I have all these adjustments for the look and timing: sc phase, h phase, chroma, video level and a bunch of other stuff. I am in a nontimed environment meaning I have no blackburst or anything like that. I just want the video to look right and it seems to look a little weird. I know it is hard to adjust without instruments but are there some standard settings I can use?

[Ian Liuzzi-Fedun] “sc phase, h phase, chroma, video level and a bunch of other stuff.”

I am not familiar with that deck however SC phase and h phase, ONLY refer to timed machines. That is a machine that is receiving Black Burst other video as reference in.

SC, or subcarrier is a Delay control that adjust delay of the Subcarrier as it relates to the reference. The H phase is Horizontal Phase, a timing relationship to the horizontal pulse, again only as it relates to the video reference.
SC is color information and H is horizontal position or timing. You can attempt to adjust both SC or H and nothing will happen if a reference signal is not present.

I suggest that you find a waveform monitor to set your video and chroma levels.
