Airport
I presently have a G5 IMac. I wish to add another cheap/used G3 or G4 Mac to be used in the family room as our internet/I-chat/I-Tunes computer, primarily for the kids.
My G5 does not have an Airport card or a base station.
This is my plan, as far as setting up a wireless network. Please comment if I can do this cheaper or more efficiently:
1. Purchase a an airport card for my G5 Imac
2. Purchase a used airport extereme basestation to connect to my G5 IMac
3. Purchase any used Mac that already has an airport card for the “family” computer.Will this work? Which is preferable, Airport Extreme or Xpress?

Airport Extreme and Airport Express are the same technology it just depends on what you want to do with them ie Airport Express allows iTunes streaming to your stereo. The scenerio you suggest should be fine, although you’ll always have more problems with a wireless network then a wired due to interference.
