  • AFX crashing on Full Hd Comps RENDER…

Posted by Marco Cogumelo on September 30, 2008 at 4:37 pm

    Hi everyone!!
I’m having the same problem, when RENDERING FULL HD comps (1920x1080p XDCAM EX 30p), with chromakey, primatte 4.0, or when i use the AFX with these comps, it crashes no matter format it does.
Any advices? We’re really on a hurry and i have to finish this project ASAP.

This is the message i get everytime:

    “After effects
A copy of your project was saved at:….blablabla”

but no error are reported inside AE logs.

    Here are my specs:
    MacPro 8-Core 2x 2.8GHz Quad-core Xeon.
6GB RAM (afx max mem usage 100%, max ram cache size 90%, and enable disk cache size 18000mb)
    ATI 2600HD
    OSX 10.5.5
    AFX 8.0.2.27
Primatte Keyer 4.0.0 (strangely described as a Adobe Premiere plugin)

Try rendering without the Primatte Keyer (just to check if it’s the cause of your problems). At the same time, go online to check on the latest version of Primatte to ensure that you have that.

    Hi RoRK thanks for answering…
    I’m trying the following..
using the plugin KeyCorret Pro 1.0 and Primatte Pro 4.0.0 (but at AFX it shows as 4.2 version is that correct?), and Dearfactor, Primatte Keyer Pro 4.2, Edge Blur and Matte Feather EZ … when i try to render an ANIMATION CODEC without any effect, it works perfectly, but trying to render it using the native codec (XDCAM EX) without any effect, AFX suddenly crashes, but even with simple AFX effects like color keying or fractal noise, it crashes as well.

So, the fact is that afx can not render when any effect is applied to my comps.

The footages are .mov converted by XDCAM transfer, captured with an EX1 XD cam. The original ones are .mp4 files.

adding effects may be pushing AE over the edge from your high mem settings. try the defaults so that there is room for your graphics buffer to complete the effects.

    max mem usage 120%
    max ram cache size 60%

From your description, it sounds more like an issue with the CODEC than with AE rendering of effects.

You mentioned rendering to the Animation CODEC with some effects and there wasn’t a problem. You should then try a proper render with Primatte et al to the Animation CODEC.

Get that over with and then search online for info on the XDCam CODECs.

    Hello guys!
    Thanks for all advises.
The problem was solved decreasing the Ram Cache Size to 55% and increasing the Max Memory usage to 120% and 18GB of disk cache….
Rendering performance is very slow, but it works.
I hope i dont have further problems with HD comps.
