After Effects, Shatter Effect
Cannot figure out if I’m over complicating things or if it’s just a brain fart. I’ve created a logo and extruded it in After Effects using the Create Vector Shapes from object feature. Blah blah blah it appears as if it’s 3-D now. I’d like to shatter this object using the shatter effect. However when I apply the shatter effect to the outlined object, it doesn’t shatter. Any suggestions? I’ve shattered text and such, is this not available for extruded objects? Please help.

I would suggest that you precomp your 3D logo. It’s not likely that the Shatter effect works on 3D extrusions, since it is obviously creating its’ own pseudo 3D in the shatter menu. Of course, by precomping, you’re going to lose the ability to move the logo in actual 3D space as well, but it might work for your needs.

You’ve very likely applied Shatter to the extruded layer without first nesting the extruded layer. It’s a Ray-traced rule that extruded layers will disregard effects applied to them.
