I see that there are quite a few people selling after effects 7 on ebay!
most of them are an upgrade version + they give you a keycode from V 5.5!
are these safe to buy or is it likely that people are selling upgrades and flogging off the same keycode multiple times?
also if i owned AFX this way, then in the future when adobe releases more new versions, will this product become not elegiable for upgrades as it started off as 5.5.

    much help appeciated

I saw deals like that when I was looking to buy, but for peace of mind I decided to pay a little more and buy from Adobe. It paid off as my update from 6.5 to 7 was free (bought within 3 weeks of update). Actually, I bought the Video collection and they upgraded me to the production suite premium at no cost…..

    Good luck

I bought an old version on Ebay with the v7 upgrade when it first came out. I did have to talk to Adobe to get the registration numbers to work correctly due to the age of the first disk, but they okayed it without a hitch. So the bottom line is, it all depends on the person you’re dealing with and if THEY are legit.

Well, depends. If they are old OEM versions (and it definitely sounds like that), then technically whoever is supplying them should not sell them without selling you a computer with it. ;o) Though the dealer may say otherwise, it is a clear infringement of Adobes licensing terms and even though e.g. here in Germany there has been a court ruling saying that it is still legal, I’d consider it a matter of honor and try to be as true to Adobe’s policies as one possibly can (yes, we all never have enough money). The other side of course is that Adobe usually sells those discs in large numbers and gives out large blocks of serials. So in the end they don’t know which of these discs has been sold properly with hardware and which ones haven’t. Following that logic, all serials would be fully elegible to upgrades. In addition to that I think that Adobe probably prefer to sell any number of AE licenses regardless of the circumstances than selling no licenses at all, so it should be alright. BTW, I recall that somewhere on the Adobe site you can check those numbers and if they aren’t legit, you should get a full refund from your dealer. Just make that a condition of your buying decision.

OEM – original equipment manufacturer. Just like you get your Windows and your MSOffice with your computer, Adobe offers special versions to include in newly built computers at a discounted price.

BTW…I would be very careful with purchasing those licenses, especially if all they are offering are keycodes. Make sure that they offer the original disc and the serial #. If not, Adobe has a piracy reporting form on their website.
